Between beach and ocean stretches a field of concrete spheres, silent witnesses to the nuclear tests that marked the Pacific. This memorial installation materialises the impact of more than 100 atomic bombs detonated in these waters during the twentieth century, transforming an act of destruction into a potential for rebirth.
The concrete spheres, more than a hundred of them, play with gravity and the tides. Partially submerged, they emerge and disappear with the rhythm of the ocean's flows, making visible the perpetual dialogue between land and sea. Their raw texture and imposing mass evoke the weight of past acts while creating a new underwater landscape.
This intervention transforms the historical burden into an ecological refuge. The cavities and rough surfaces of the concrete offer habitats for marine organisms, allowing wildlife to reclaim these structures. Algae, crustaceans and fish gradually colonise these masses, creating an artificial reef that transmutes the destructive legacy into a catalyst for life.
